A little bit more enthusiasm, please!

Is a cover letter still of any use?

For some, it is annoying and totally unnecessary. Others swear by it and can’t do without it – the cover letter remains controversial. If you choose to write a cover letter for your application, you must adhere to a specific structure. This structure is broadly similar to that of a classic letter: a headline with your own personal data, recipient data in full form equal to it (here, one should note the name of the contact person, among other things), date and subject line (possibly code of the job or position) slightly offset further down. And if the contact person is known, s/he must definitely appear in the salutation. The contents are as follows: introduction, bulk, soft skills, an optional part, ending, signature.

It is basically about showing that you know the about job offer and understand the requirements of the position.

Even if the application letter is not the most important element of an application – the CV, or the profile of the candidate, is the most important – some recruiters still require it. It is basically about showing that you know the about job offer and understand the requirements of the position .

Because of the speed of Internet communication and online application forms, cover letters have tended to become shorter. In many cases, they are reduced to only a short note in the email (e.g. “Should my profile be of interest, please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.”).

The “classic” standard letter is therefore becoming less and common, but because of that it is regarded as more valuable because it shows additional effort, which seems to have just been lost with the digital development.
