Iconographers specialise in photographic documents and provide journalists and/or editors with images on a particular topic to illustrate the content of a text. The goal of an iconographer is to research photos and reproduce texts through these illustrations.

Iconographers specialise in photographic documents and provide journalists and/or editors with images on a particular topic to illustrate the content of a text.

Their work also includes cooperation with agencies, photographers, museums, etc. The images found are registered, archived, and then integrated into databases to be used for creation of documents. Iconographers are also tasked with purchase price negotiations and ensuring adherence to copyright laws. Thus, having a photographic memory and legal knowledge comes in handy if you are to make sure that no images are shared without violating copyright laws.

The profession of iconography is not regulated in Luxembourg. However, higher education training, which usually takes three to five years, is required. Even if this requires a certain sense of responsibility and all activities are almost always done in the office, it is a very creative and varied profession.
