The profession of a tour guide involves a wide range of responsibilities. Tour guides not only assist and provide information to individual travellers or groups travelling locally or abroad, they also ensure a smooth overall stay. This ranges from hotel reservations and information on the various tours, up to crisis management in the event of problems. They are the binding link between the travel group and the agency, with which they ensure constant communication about the entire process prior to the trip.

Apart from major agencies, travel agents in Luxembourg rarely work on a full-time basis. Strong commitment, high flexibility, high availability, and extensive expertise are a prerequisite.

Since the profession is not regulated in this country, candidates can choose between training in high-school or a three-year training course. Pursuing a course in tourism or culture, as well as good language skills are also an advantage. This profession demands great responsibility but is also very varied and definitely not an office job.
